A niggle that will not settle, a joint that aches long after the session, recovery that drags on for weeks. Slow healing is one of the most searched problems in training, and two peptides come up constantly in the research: BPC-157 and TB-500. Here is what the literature actually shows.
Why recovery slows down
Tissue repair depends on blood supply, cell signalling and inflammation resolving properly. Age, repetitive load and poor circulation all slow that process, which is why recovery research targets the signalling behind tissue repair.
BPC-157
BPC-157 is a synthetic peptide derived from a protein in gastric juice. In preclinical studies it has been associated with tendon, ligament and muscle healing and with angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels (Sikiric et al., extensive animal literature). Human clinical trials remain limited, so it is strictly a research compound.
TB-500
TB-500 is a synthetic fragment related to thymosin beta-4, a protein involved in cell migration and tissue repair. It has been studied in animal models of wound healing and cardiac repair (Goldstein et al.). As with BPC-157, robust human data is still developing.
What the evidence supports
The preclinical signal for tissue repair is what drives interest, but human evidence is early, and the fundamentals of recovery, sleep, protein and load management, remain primary. Both are studied within controlled research settings.
The takeaway
Recovery is a signalling problem, and that is where this research sits. See also sleep and recovery peptides and body-recomposition research.
