Buying MOTS-c here means a lyophilised vial of 20 mg, HPLC verified at a minimum of 99 percent purity. Anyone working in mitochondrial research meets MOTS-c alongside SS-31 almost every time. We stock both, and this page puts them next to each other with the price per milligram.
| Format | Form | Price | Per mg | Stock |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SS-31 50 mg lowest per mg | Lyophilised vial | € 120,00 | € 2,40 | In stock |
| MOTS-c 20 mg | Lyophilised vial | € 70,00 | € 3,50 | In stock |
What MOTS-c is
MOTS-c stands for Mitochondrial Open-reading-frame of the Twelve S rRNA-c. It is a sixteen amino acid peptide encoded within the mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene. That discovery was foundational: it established the mitochondrion itself as a source of bioactive peptides rather than only the cell’s power plant.
The research mechanism
- Activation of the AMPK pathway (Lee et al., 2015)
- Modulation of the folate-methionine cycle
- Increased glucose uptake in muscle and adipose tissue
- Mitochondrial-nuclear retrograde signalling
Why MOTS-c and SS-31 keep appearing together
Both are mitochondrially targeted, but they act at different levels. That is precisely why they show up side by side in protocols.
MOTS-c works through signalling: it activates the AMPK pathway and thereby influences how the cell handles glucose and fatty acids. SS-31, also known as Elamipretide or MTP-131, is a tetrapeptide that binds cardiolipin on the inner mitochondrial membrane. That is not signalling but structure: it acts directly on the membrane where oxidative phosphorylation takes place.
Signalling against structure, inside the same organelle. That contrast is the research subject, not the question of which is stronger.
- MOTS-c: 16 amino acids, lyophilised powder, 20 mg per vial
- SS-31: CAS 736992-21-5, molecular formula C32H49N9O5, 50 mg per vial
- Purity: both minimum 99 percent, confirmed by HPLC
- Storage: 2 to 8 degrees Celsius, protected from light
How to judge a peptide supplier
The research peptide market is not regulated the way a pharmacy is. The difference between suppliers therefore lies entirely in what they can demonstrate, not in what they claim. Four points are enough.
A certificate per batch, not per product. A certificate attached to a product page rather than to your specific batch number tells you nothing about the vial in your hands. Ask for the batch number.
Two independent methods. HPLC shows purity, mass spectrometry confirms the compound is what the label says. HPLC alone is half the story. Karl Fischer titration measures water content on top of that, which is directly tied to how long the powder stays stable.
A cold chain that matches the distance. Lyophilised peptide tolerates room-temperature transport less well the longer it lasts. A shipment weeks in transit from another continent is a different product than the same powder that stayed within the EU.
A payment method that leaves a trail. Wero, credit card, Apple Pay and Google Pay all do. Suppliers who accept only crypto deliberately avoid that.
What is in the package
- The sealed vial or pen in your chosen format, batch traceable
- Protective cold packaging, cold chain within the EU
- Discreet outer packaging with no reference to the contents
- Certificate of analysis on request, tied to your batch number
We do not include bacteriostatic water or needles. That is deliberate: we sell the research compound, not the accessories.
Reconstitution and storage
Reconstitute MOTS-c with sterile bacteriostatic water at 2 to 3 ml, giving working concentrations of 6,7 to 10 mg per millilitre. Reconstituted material stays stable roughly four weeks refrigerated at 2 to 8 degrees. Store the lyophilised vial at minus 20 degrees until reconstitution.
Paying from anywhere in the EU
You complete your order first. You then reach a secure payment page showing the exact amount and your order number, where you choose how to pay: Wero, credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. Which methods appear depends on the country you are paying from. No card number is entered on our site.
Shipping and customs across Europe
We ship from within the EU with cold chain. For any EU destination that means no customs clearance, no import duty and no gap in temperature control. Sunday is the only day we do not ship. Above 200 euro shipping is free.
One thing worth stating plainly, because it comes up constantly in English searches: the United Kingdom is no longer in the EU. A shipment there goes through customs clearance with a delay we cannot control, and a customs depot is not a cold room. The same applies to Switzerland and Norway. We say this before you order rather than after.
Research use only
What we supply are research compounds for laboratory use. They are not a medicine, are not sold as one, and are not intended for human consumption. That distinction is the entire legal point: a research compound falls under different rules than an approved medicinal product.
For that reason we give no dosage, no protocol and no usage advice. What we do give is documentation.
Frequently asked questions
What exactly is MOTS-c?
A sixteen amino acid peptide encoded within the mitochondrial 12S rRNA gene, the best studied member of the mitochondrially encoded peptide family.
What is the difference from SS-31?
MOTS-c is a signalling molecule activating the AMPK pathway. SS-31 binds cardiolipin on the inner membrane and acts on structure.
Is SS-31 the same as Elamipretide?
Yes, as is MTP-131. Three names for the same compound.
Which is cheaper per milligram?
SS-31 at 2,40 euro across 50 mg, against 3,50 euro for MOTS-c across 20 mg.
How do I reconstitute MOTS-c?
With sterile bacteriostatic water at 2 to 3 ml, giving 6,7 to 10 mg per millilitre.
Do you ship to the UK?
The UK left the EU, so customs clearance applies.
How can I pay?
With Wero, credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay.
What may I use this for?
Laboratory research only. Not for human consumption, not a medicinal product and not for diagnostic use.
